Got this email forwarded to me from a mate who is involved with the Automotive Aftermarket Association with the following attachments. My god she really is a talk first think later kind of leader isn't she, she's worse than Abbott!

I think Stuart sums up everything in his letter to the PM perfectly. Talk about spewing mindless drivel out to get a vote, but to heap a load of drivel over a major contributor to the country in all aspects, taxation, quality of life, etc... and whether women like it or not, the automotive element of life is here to stay and it's our creative nature to do what we do as hobbyists and enthusiasts.

Quote:
Dear Members,

As you may be aware, the Prime Minister announced in Brisbane on Saturday that if re-elected, her Government would introduce a “Cleaner Car Rebate” scheme, effective 1 January 2011.
This scheme is based on similar “Cash for Clunkers” schemes introduced in the USA and Europe during the global financial crisis.

This announcement has come completely from left field and has taken all the industry by surprise. You may recall that the MTA NSW called for the introduction of a similar scheme early last year and this was rejected at the time by the Federal Industry Minister, FCAI and the MTAA.

It really does look like policy on the run from a Government that is desperate to do and say anything to remain in power.

Aside from being bad public policy – these schemes have been extremely damaging for the independent aftermarket when introduced overseas although having said that, the incentives offered overseas have been significantly higher than what is on offer here.

The proposal has already received a significant amount of criticism in the media and the opposition has come out against the policy stating that they will divert these funds into debt reduction if they are elected.

Unfortunately, as this is now an election pledge, the Government if returned will be obliged look at it in some form.

Attached is a copy of a letter I have sent to the Prime Minister as well as a media release that was distributed this afternoon. We have also sent copies of this information to the opposition.

I can assure you that we as an association will do everything we can to ensure that this is ill conceived and damaging policy is consigned to the scrap heap !

I’ll keep you updated on further developments.

Kind regards

Stuart Charity

The problem we have is that issues like this are publicised in the mainstream media down a 1-way channel, i.e. the PM can get her voice to the public but can the public have any chance of rebuttal? We're kidding ourselves. Should the AAAA have the same access to the media to voice their concern (read: properly debate the issue), you can bet your testicles that she would break her spine in yet another backflip because she would be crucified with the points raised.

well lets see
this is the year 2010 the net is everywhere ...most if not all car clubs have a presence on the net ..............hmmmm maybe a levy australia wide of $5 per membership should go into a fighting fund to pay a lobbyist to get our point across ,we need to get somewhat organised or our hobby will go down the shitter because we are all labeled "hoons"

we ALL need to think very seriously about who we vote for ....the USA has SEMA to lobby the government BUT we have nothing !

wouldnt it be nice if car enthusiasts in Australia actually had a voice in parliament !

A lot of years ago Barry Unsworth from memory started putting pressure on sporting shooters, tried to ban people from having guns & made out that all people who had guns were criminals. Cant remember which order but he did get the ass & the shooters party was formed.

I would think there would be more car people than shooters in this country & dont see why something similar could not work for car people.

Yep and it is still around !!!!!! no one pics on them anymore ...............so how does one start a party ..............and get together everyone to mobilise against what every state government in Australia is doing to ALL motoring enthusiasts ....
Think the time has come to forget name calling whether it be Jap Euro or USA ..........could be WAY bigger than the shooters party ...........not sure about other states BUT our motring organisation in NSW (NRMA ) has its own interests at heart not NOT the motorists !!!!

It is also interesting to see just how fast the 4wd lobby got on to that raising issue that was supposed to go through government and stopped it from becoming enacted at this stage SO somewhere there is the power !
